The City of Fairview, Oregon (population 10,671) is recruiting for its next City Manager. Located along the great Columbia River at the gateway to the Historic Columbia River Highway, Fairview is a family-friendly home to residents from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences who appreciate the community’s distinct balance of access to the urban amenities of Portland and the natural splendors of the Columbia River Gorge and Mt. Hood.

The ideal candidate will possess strong, well rounded, leadership and management abilities along with a thorough understanding of Council-Manager government roles. Desired attributes include: experienced, collaborative, approachable, and well rounded, leadership and management abilities; ability to foster effective Council relations; demonstrated public finance proficiency; experience with managing and leading community and economic development projects; excellent communication skills; ability to effectively manage intergovernmental relations; familiarity with public works infrastructure; demonstrated community engagement experience; commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion principles; and an appreciation for Fairview.

As the administrative head of the City serving at the pleasure of the City Council, the City Manager supervises 27 full-time equivalent employees and oversees an annual budget of approximately $18.5 million. 

COMPENSATION: $145,000 - $175,000 (DOQ) WITH excellent benefits 

 

The City Manager position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning, political science, or related field, and at least three years of upper-level local government management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The City prefers a candidate with an advanced degree in public administration or related field, and at least five years of increasingly responsible experience. Experience and/or training in public finance and redevelopment initiatives such as working with Oregon urban renewal agencies is highly desired.
